Acting Out: Day 3 — Drawing Closer to God

Read Acts 2:29-47

Key Verse: Acts 2:38 “Peter replied, “Each of you must turn from your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (NLT)

Through the power of the Holy Spirit Peter makes the most of his opportunity to witness to the crowd that day. According to Acts 2:38 we need to turn from our sins and turn to God before we can receive the Holy Spirit.

It’s important for us to let God search our hearts and reveal any areas of sin that we may still have in our lives. When we understand that parts of our lives are not right before God we need to turn away from our sin and turn to God to help us. As we repent of our sin we can then get closer to God. When we get closer to Him we can experience the great promises He has in store for us.

Being filled by God’s Spirit also changes our hearts. Just look at how the people who were criticizing the disciples were changed. In verse 42 we see that they joined the disciples and devoted themselves to the disciple’s teachings.
If we have sin in our hearts we need to repent and turn to God. He will be faithful to forgive us and even help us by changing our hearts so we can better serve Him.

Prayer: “Lord, I want to be closer to you than ever before. If there is any sin in my life please reveal it to me so I can repent and turn to you. Please change my heart so I can live the way you want me to live.”
